Refresh rate and response time are the two specs gamers look at first.

Refresh rate

Measured in hertz (Hz), it is how many times per second the screen updates. Higher rates look smoother if your PC or console can output enough frames.

Response time

How quickly pixels change color. Lower numbers reduce blur, but makers measure it in different ways.

Inputs

Check HDMI and DisplayPort versions, especially if you want high refresh rates on a console.
